MLTI-NM training is designed for professionals who are seeking not only advanced training, but also a recognized credential that reflects depth of knowledge and clinical expertise. For many trainees, this distinction is valuable whether they are working directly with students, serving in leadership or specialist roles within school systems, or developing a private practice.

Successful completion of MLTI-NM training can support pathways toward professional credentials through the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA), including certification as a Practitioner (CALP) or Therapist (CALT), for trainees who meet applicable requirements. Training with MLTI-NM may also serve as a route toward earning a New Mexico reading endorsement.

Summer 2026 Course Dates
Ten-day virtual course, meeting 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
June 10–12, June 15–18, and June 22–24, 2026

MLTI-NM training is intended for educators and related professionals who are interested in a clinically grounded, structured approach to working with students who have persistent reading and spelling difficulties, including dyslexia.

This training may be a strong fit if you:

  • work (or plan to work) with students who have significant literacy challenges
  • are prepared for a rigorous training experience that includes coursework and supervised application
  • value mentorship, professional accountability, and fidelity to a structured approach

This training may not be the best fit for those seeking a brief overview of reading instruction or a self-paced, low-commitment program.

Summer Introductory Course
The Summer Introductory Course is the required entry point into MLTI-NM training. The course focuses on foundational knowledge, lesson structure, and preparation for supervised application.

Year 1 (Teaching Level)
Trainees who are eligible to continue move into Year 1, which includes monthly cohort coursework alongside the beginning of supervised practicum work with a student.

Year 2 (Therapy Level)
Year 2 includes advanced coursework and expanded clinical practice for those pursuing therapist-level certification.

Progression through the program is based on successful completion of requirements and readiness for the next level.

  1. Applications are reviewed by the MLTI-NM team
  2. Applicants are invited to an interview
  3. Program expectations, commitments, and individual circumstances are reviewed in more detail
  4. Offers are extended to applicants who are a strong fit for the cohort

Because MLTI-NM training involves supervised clinical practice and individualized pathways, many program details are intentionally reviewed during conversation rather than fully outlined in writing.
